Կնիք հաւ. 174. այսահալածել «սատանան քշել» Ուխտ. բ. 19-20 (նո-րագիւտ բառ), այսայարան «թատրոն» (իբր դիւաց հանդիսարան) Կիւրղ. ի կոյսն։ Այս բոլորի մէջ այս բառը «դև» իմաստն ու-նի։ Շատ հազուագիւտ է այս «քամի», որ մէկ անռամ գործածուած է Սղ. ժ. 7 (Այս մրրիկ բաժին բաժակի նոցա =յն. πνεῦμα [other alphabet] -λαιγίδος ή μερίς τοῦ ποτηρίον αύτων). և ինչ-պէս Եզնիկն է ցոյց տալիս, Ե դարուն Հիւսի-սային Հայաստանի մէջ մարած մի ձև էր և ռռրծածւում էր միայն Հայաստանի հարաւա-յին գաւառներում՝ «Յորժամ մեք (կողբացիք և այլ հիւսիսային Հայք) ասեմք թէ սիք շնչէ, ստորնեայք (այն է՝ հարաւային Հայք) ասեն՝ այս շնչէ» (տե՛ս մեր Քննութ. Եզնկայ նորա-գիւտ ձեռագրին, էջ 74-75)։ Երկու նշանա-կութեանց զարգացման համար հմմտ. լն. πνεδμα «շունչ և դև», լտ. spiritus «շունչ» =ֆրանս. esprit «ոգի, դև», հյ. ոգի ևն՝ կրկին առումներով։
• ՆՀԲ, որից և Հիւնք. լծ. թրք. [arabic word] esmek փչել, շնչել քամու» և պրս. sāya «ոգի, դև» (բուն «ստուեր»)։ Եզնիկի մէջ ստոր-նեայք բառը նախապէս սխալմամբ ա-սորնեայք կարդացուած լինելով՝ կարծ-ւում էր թէ այս «ոգի» ասորերէնից փո-խառեալ բառ է։ Այս կարծիքի համեմատ Տէրվիշեան, Մասիս 1882 դե՞կտ. 16 հա-մարում է սեմական փոխառութիւն։ Ալի. շան, Հին հաւ. 213, 216 հնդ. ասուրա. զնդ. ահուրա։ Canini, Et. étym. 94 զնդ. áhura, ասուր. Asur բառերի հետ։ Sch-rijnen BSL 95, 63 համարում է փոխա-ռեալ նախահնդևրոպական համաեւրո-պական ais «Աստուած, նուիոաևան ռան զոհ» բառից, որ Իտալիայում յատկա-պէս շատ ներկայացուցիչներ ունի։ Նոյնը կրկնում է Meillet BSL 33, л 100, էջ 173, որ հյ. այս կցում է ետրուսկ. ais «Աստուած» բառի, որի նշանակութիւնը շատ հաստատ է և որ չի գտնվում իտա-լական լեզուների մէջ։ Հյ. այս բառի մէջ ս չի կարող յառաջացած լինել հնխ. s-ից. բառը անշուշտ միջերկրեան փոխառու-թիւն է։ (Պէտք է նկատել սակայն, որ այս բառի նախնական նշանակութեւնն է «փչիւն», և «դև» իմաստը յետոյ է ա--ռաջացած)։

• . ներկայ գրականի ընդունած ձևն է. հները աւանդում են շատ բազմազան ձևերով. ինչ. արշալուրշ, արշալուշ, աշալուրջ, աշալուրշ, աշալուջ, աշալուշ, աշալուշս, աշա-լուս, աշալոյս, արշալուս, աչալուրջ, որոնք ոսկեդարեան հայերէնի մէջ (ինչպէս նաև յետնաբար) գործածուած են միշտ անեզա-բար, ընդ նախդիրով և անհոլով. (միայն Խոր. բ. 39 ունի հոլովուած աչալրջացն, այլ ձ. աչալրջոցն, աշալրջոցն)։ Այսքան զանա-զան ձևերը բացատրելու համար պէտք է մեկնիլ հնագոյն *արշալուրջ բառից, որի յգ. հյց. հոլովն է *ընդ արշալուրջսն։ Սրա մէջ կրկին ր բաղաձայնները փոփոխակի կամ երբեմն էլ միանգամայն ընկնելով, ջ ձայ-նը յաջորդ բաղաձայնի պատճառով շ-ի վե-րածուելով և յետոյ էլ ջնջուելով, և ս արմա-տական կարծուելով ու լոյս բառի հետ շփո-թուելով՝ ձևացել են բոլոր վերի ձևերը։ *Ար-շալուրջք բառի հին նշանակութիւնն է «յետին պահ գիշերոյ՝ որում յաջորդեն նշոյլք լուսոյ առաւօտուն», իսկ արդի «aurora, արշալոյս, տճկ. շաֆախ» նշանակութիւնը յետին է։
