• = Պհլ. *saft ձևից, որ թէև աւանդուած չէ, բայց նոյնն է հաստատում պրս. ❇ saft «հաստատուն, ամուր, հոծ, խիտ». վերջին նշանակութեան բոլորովին համա-պատասխան է գալիս հյ. սոթահեր։ Իրանե-ան ձևի դէմ հայերէն սպասելի էր *սաւթ» *սօթ և ըստ իս այս էր նաև բառիս հնագոյն ձևը, որ յետին գրիչների մօտ աղաւաղուե-լով դարձաւ սոթ։ Բնիկ ձևի հետքերը պա-հում են դեռ սութ և սաթ գրչութիւնները։--Աճ.
• ՆՀԲ լծ. իտալ. sodo, լտ. solidns «հյաստատուն»։
• , ի հլ? «ուժեղ մրրկաշունչ քամի». նորագիւտ և անկախ չգործածուած բառ, որ անուղղակի կերպով ակնարկում է միայն Օրբել. հրտր. Էմինի, էջ 6, Սոթք գաւառի անուան ստուգաբանութիւնը տալ ուզելով. «Սոթից գաւառ, որ սակս հանապազորդեան բքոց և դառնաշունչ օդոցն կոչեցաւ Սոթք»։
• ՆՀԲ առանց մտադիր լինելու ակնար-կին՝ սոթ կցում է նախորդ «պինդ, կարծր» բառին, որ սրա հետ կապ չունի։ Հմմտ՝.
• ԳՒՌ.-ՆԲ. սռթ «դառնաշունչ արևելեան քամի Սևանի վրայ, որի ժամանակ նաւա-գնացութիւնը անկարելի է դառնում և գրեթէ ժայռերն են տեղահան լինում» (Հովիւ 1906, 116, նաև Ազգ. հանդ. ժէ 54)։
