• ՆՀԲ վերիվերոյ մեկնում է բառը «շո-ղոմարար, քծնող, շնթող, շլխտի, ճիլ-վէճի», իսկ շղուրտաբարոյ համարում է «մայրենամիտ, վայրագ, լծ. լտ. silva-nus, ի յն. իլէ՛օս»։ Այսպէս են նաև ՋԲ և ԱԲ։ Վերի ձևով մեկնեց Աճառ. Վղրշպտ. 1911, էջ 88, որ հայերէն բառը փոխառեալ է դնում վրացերէնից, ինչ որ աւելի բա-նաւոր է թւում։ Պատահակա՞ն նմանու-թիւն ունի արաբ. ❇šūla «յիմար կին» (Կամուս, թրք. թրգմ. Գ. 261)։
