Karpet, իտալ. carpita «մի տեսակ թաւ կերպաս», հունգ. kärpit «վարագոյր», սերբ. karpit «վա-րագոյր», krpèta «սեղանի վրայ փռելու գորգ» (Berneker 628), որոնք բոլոր հանում են եւրոպացիք ստ. լտ. carpita «բրդէ ձորձ» բառից, իսկ այս էլ ծագած լտ. carpo «բուրդ կամ թել մանել» բայից. բայց դեռ քննելի է թէ արդեօք նոյն իսկ այս ստ. լատ. բառը փոխառեալ չէ՞ յետին հայերէն կարպետ ձևից, նիւթի հետ վաճառականու-թեամբ անցած Եւրոպա։-Օրբէլի (տե՛ս Մառ, Teксть и paз. no Kав.
