[arabic word] ︎ karkand «հը-րագոյն մի ակն», ❇ [arabic word] Karkahan, [arabic word] ︎ karkahān «մեղեսիկ» բառերի միջոցով, որոնք նոյնպէս նրանից են փոխա-ռեաւ։ Ըստ Laufer, որ բառիս ծագման վրայ ունի մի առանձին յօդուած (MSL 22, 43-46), այս քարի հայրենիքն է Յեյլոն կղզին երով և բոլորի աղբիւրն է սանս. [other alphabet] karketana, որից յառաջացել են պրակրիտ kakkeraa, թիբեթ և մոնգոլ. kekeru։ Նատ հին ժամանակ բառը անցել է Պարսկաստան և տուել արշակունեան *karkaδan ձևը։ Սրա-նից պէտք է բաժանել յն. χαλϰηδών (գոր-ծածուած է Յայտ. իա. 19, որ մեր թարգմա-նութեան մէջ եղել է պղնձագոյն. ծագում է Բիւթանիոյ Քաղկեդոն քաղաքի անունից) և ϰαρχηδόνιοσ որ Կարքեդոնի անունից է ծագում։ Վերջին յոյն բառից է ծագում ա-սոր.
